Next time you approach a busy junction with traffic getting into a grid lock, hold back and let others get right of way. Very soon, more sensible minded people will join you, and the traffic will clear soon.
It is possible to break herd mentality. And you can do it too. Try it.

I understand the sentiment here but the keyword(s) is "more sensible minded people" here. I don't know about Maharashtra but right here in Gujarat with the exception of Ahmedabad, people will shove you to the side and make their way, Surat in particular. I definitely think higher fines and stringent disciplinary measures should be put in place to curb this.
Ray, I understand :) Even here in Pune, this will not work more often than it will. But you can do it - sometimes :)
Hard-earned money going out of your own pocket is the only way it really sinks in, and stays, as a lesson. Hefty fines with no option of bribing out of it. It works bigtime where I live :-(
