To Drink or Not to Drink...

Very touching poem.. but hey, don't just read and go away... think about it!

You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I drank soda instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom,
the way you said I would.

I didn't drink and drive, Mom,
even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.

Now the party is finally ending, Mom,
as everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom,
knew I'd get home in one piece.

Because of the way you raised me,
so responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom,
but as I pulled out into the road,
the other car didn't see me, Mom,
and hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,
I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom,
and now I'm the one who will pay.

I'm lying here dying, Mom..
I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom?
My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom,
and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say,
Mom, I'll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom,
I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom.
The others didn't think.

He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank and I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom?
It can ruin your whole life.

I'm feeling sharp pains now.
Pains just like a knife.
guy who hit me is walking, Mom,
and I don't think it's fair.

I'm lying here dying
and all he can do is stare.
Tell my brother not to cry, Mom.
Tell Daddy to be brave.

And when I go to heaven, Mom,
put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave

Someone should have told him, Mom,
not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom,
I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom.
I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom.
When I needed you, you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom,
before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive,
so why am I the one to die?

There is only one thing I can say about drink driving- It is absolutely crazy and NO ONE and I mean NO ONE should drive after having a drink.

You may feel that you okay after a couple of drinks but you are not. Alcohol by definition slows the reflexes down and this could be fatal when driving if you have to suddenly stop.

And one thing for those drivers who do drink and drive- think how you would feel if one of your loved ones was knocked down and injured, or even worse, god forbid, killed?

A DIFFICULT LESSON

You walk into the store
and stride down the aisle
you pick me up and
try to look casual while
you carry me down
in the checkout line .
put out your wallet
and u soon will be mine.
your friends are observing every move you make,
the clerk asks for a ID
u show him a fake
you quickly walk down
to the front of the store.
your friends are waiting for you, as you step out of the door,
you hop in the car
and drive away frm the shop....
then you shut off the ignition,
and pop off my top.
you take a few sips
and pass me around,
that's when you decide
to take a drive down the town...
u turn on your car
and put your foot on the clutch
i'm sober u think,
i did'nt have very much
you pulled onto the road,
with me by your side
taking occasional sips as
u enjoy the ride
then the brakes of the car
in front of u squeal
you try hard to stop ,
but lose control of the wheel .
u skid off the road
and u know u've crashed .
the dashboard is shattered ,
the windshield is smashed
minutes seem like hours
u r in treacherous pain,
that wash away your senses
envelops your brain.....
the screams all around u
r faint to your ears,
as life flashes before you,
your hopes and your fears....
minutes like hours
you plead and you pray
" i'll never touch it again,
just let me live one more day "
your mind starts to go dark,
it falls apart piece by piece
and then u slip into blackness,
the pain has finally ceased.
bofore you entered that store,
you should have thought twice
for i'm the substance that cost u

" YOUR LIFE "
