It's been a while since Batman went into hibernation, hounded from the city he loved, branded a villain. But Gotham is now threatened by a madman with his underground army, and a nuclear bomb. It's time for the Dark Knight to rise and save his city, yet again.
The movie was entertaining, but I thought the duration seemed 30 mins too long. The build up is steady and thrilling, but the deliverance almost never comes.
The weak and recuperating Bruce Wayne never seems to have really recovered, and the laboured efforts aren't the hallmark of a sexy super hero! The rest of the cast is good too, but somehow do not rise above expectations. Anne Hatheway as the Catwoman is interesting, but a romantic angle with the Batman would have added some real spice.
Lot of loopholes and unrealistic elements in the story, which can be overlooked only because it is a superhero movie and some liberties can be taken.
There are some fantastic action scenes though, some pretty innovative sequences that get gasps and claps from the audience. The SFX of the city under siege are also topnotch.
I wasn't a Batman fan and I hadn't even seen any of his earlier movies, so I went without any context, without any expectations. But I caught up with the previous "The Dark Knight" (see the next review on this blog) last night, and I must say, compared to that, the Rising feels more like a groggy wake up. Oh, and yes, the Joker is sorely missed!
Overall, a good action movie for the weekend, and requried viewing for Batmen, but not the wowest movie I have seen.
The best part - it's in 2D, not 3D!
