EMRI 108 Launched in Goa

After Gujarat, Uttarakhand and AP, Goa became the 4th state in the country to launch the super-sophisticated integrated emergency response service, with a single emergency number 108, accessible from any land line or mobile service, for police, fire as well as medical emergencies.

Equipped with GPS/GIS systems, and backed by a control center that will take your call and immediately dispatch the closest ambulance to the spot, these ambulances can attend to everything including hypertension, poisoning, drowning and accidents, providing critical care in those initial moments.

Check http://www.emri.in for more details on EMRI and it's work in India.

I do honestly wonder why and how these developments end up happening in Goa.. It is a major tourist spot - that's probably one reason. But cities like Mumbai and Pune need such developments too right?
Another similar example.. I don;t understand why there is no metro in Mumbai when the city so badly needs one. On the other hand Delhi has a good UG Railway system.. Because it's the capital perhaps!

oh.. ya.. we did finally get a BRT system. But I wonder where the buses are.. Pune-Satara road BRT lane is being used by regular vehicles and the traffic police does nothing about it :)

Goa is a rich state, with a lot of money. Also, being a smaller state, it's easier to push things to completion there.

About the Metro, there is already a Mumbai Metro coming up - and I believe Pune is looking at one too. Metro needs a lot of money. Delhi had very poor public transport, Mumbai is already gifted with a fantastic rail service...

Oh, the buses are very much alive and kicking, and most of the times the lanes are free too - in a country like ours, expecting 100% compliance is a bit too much :)
