Portabello Beach, Edinburgh

On our last day in Edinburgh, we took a bus to Portabello beach on the Southeast edge of the city for a short trip in the evening. The beach itself was a disappointment - just a thin strip of unclean brownish sand, and muddy greenish water, but at least I finally got a chance to be on the beach in a foreign land - yes, the only other time I had actually been to a beach was in Dubai, for 15 mins, and I am pretty sure, the sand there was transported from the nearby desert!

It was a beautiful bright and sunny evening, and a weekend at that, and the beach was crowded by families out for some fresh air - another thing we noticed a lot in the UK was families, unlike in the US where you rarely see so much parenting, and are more likely to find gangs of teens hanging out.

Interesting architecture with a focus on simple, straight lines

The Tide - a sweet hangout, a family run business that really welcomes you with its warmth

Gross when you look closely, but a great way to make a point!

Young, carefree, happy

A little more circumspect

Teens indulge in some beer and cards

A family spends quality time together

Kids frolick in the safe, shallow waters

French Fries are popular even with the crows!

Prospecting for treasure!

Love

Walking back from the beach to the main road, passing by lovely houses on both sides of the street

Doordarshan-style TV antennas are still commonly seen in the UK!

Can't really explain it, but I loved this cobbled driveway, hemmed in between the walls
